Degassers are placed in-line between the solvent reservoir(s) and the pump.
The HPLC pump draws solvent through the Degasser via gas-permeable fluoresin tubing which snakes through a vacuum chamber encased within the degasser. As the eluent moves through the Degasser, dissolved gases are selectively removed from the eluent through the fluoresin tubing into the vacuum chamber and eliminated from the eluent.
The specially formulated fluoresin acts as a selective membrane which allows small gases (such as nitrogen and oxygen) to pass but is not permeable to larger molecules used in HPLC solvents such as MeCN, MeOH, and Water. This patented design allows a decrease in dissolved oxygen, for example, to under 1ppm in a single pass through the analytical (e.g. 6320) system.
